Understanding Medikal 1.0

Medikal 1.0 refers to the existing medical software currently used in hospitals and clinics across Africa, particularly in Rwanda. It facilitates patient registration, medical record-keeping, and access to prior health history. When a patient arrives at the reception, the system asks if it’s their first visit. If so, they are registered from the ground up. If not, their unique identifier, such as a Mutual Assistance Number and name, is used to retrieve their last three medical records in PDF format for the doctor to review.

Introducing Medikal 2.0: AI-Powered Healthcare Assistance

Medikal 2.0 is an AI-driven chatbot designed to integrate with Medikal 1.0. It enhances healthcare delivery by assisting doctors in diagnosing patient conditions and recommending correct medications. Once the doctor records the patient's current symptoms, Medikal 2.0 analyzes the symptoms alongside previous medical history (retrieved from Medikal 1.0) and automatically provides medication recommendations. The system also ensures that patient history is updated for future visits, ensuring a seamless healthcare experience.

Advancing to Medikal 3.0: Multilingual AI and Advanced Features

Medikal 3.0 brings a significant upgrade by introducing support for Kinyarwanda, allowing patients and health workers to interact in their native language. Additionally, it integrates voice and image detection systems trained to diagnose skin diseases accurately. Patients and doctors can communicate in either English or Kinyarwanda via voice, with live transcriptions available for accuracy.

Another crucial enhancement is Medikal 3.0’s ability to combat Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) through automated reminders. After a consultation, the system sends patients reminders to take their prescribed medications on time, ensuring adherence to the doctor’s instructions. It also notifies patients about upcoming appointments, providing daily reminders until the treatment period ends.
